A sealant is a tooth-shaded resin material that is applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth (premolars and molars), where decay occurs most often. This sealant acts as a barrier, sealing the deep pits and fissures on the biting surface of the tooth where the toothbrush can't reach, thus protecting the decay prone areas of the tooth from plaque and acid.
